Voices from Dancing With the Stars' past and present are coming out in support of same-sex couples dancing on the celebreality competition series. The dialog started when news came that the Israeli version of the series will feature the first same-sex pairing.
Dancing With the Stars season 8 runner-up Gilles Marini would "love to see" same-sex dancing on the series.
Gilles Marini: "I would love to see same-sex dancing. I've seen it. It's pretty intense. For guys, two girls dancing? Hello! And two guys dancing? I'm sure a lot of people would like to see that, too."
DWTS professional dancer Maksim Chermovskiy has said he wouldn't mind seeing same-sex partners on the ABC series.
Maksim Chermovskiy: "I just think that everybody is entitled to their lifestyle and to their way of living, and if Israeli Dancing With the Stars showcases a same-sex couple, it certainly represents the choices of many, many, many people out there. Whatever my beliefs are, it's irrelevant. I'm heterosexual and that's my choice, that's how I live, but I came to this country because it gave me freedom to be who I wanted to be, an opportunity to excel in what I wanted to excel. I applaud the risky move Israeli Dancing With the Stars took."
DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba agree with Marini and Chermovskiy.
Carrie Ann Inaba: "I would love it. I fully support that and I think America is ready for that. Our country is much more accepting of same sex couples and it would be great for the show to reflect that."
When asked of the rumors of Portia DeGeneres competing and whether she should be cast on the series...
Carrie Ann Inaba: "I don't cast the show, but I think it would be great and I'd show up in my rainbow colors and fully support it."
Dancing With the Stars' airs Mondays @ 8pm on ABC. Dancing With the Stars: The Results airs Tuesdays @ 9pm.
